Feline Idiopathic Cystitis (FIC) is the most common of all FLUT diseases accounting for 65% of affected cats. FIC is characterised by symptoms of cystitis without any evidence of bacterial cystitis and findings are similar to those of human IC which include bladder urothelial ulceration with inflammation and fibrosis, and occurs equally in both sexes. Recent studies have suggested that FIC may result from alterations in the protective glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer that lines the bladder.
